Manual extension install

Cursor & other editors

Download the .vsix package for editors that don't list Code Notebook in their extension store — Cursor, VSCodium, and other VS Code–based forks.

Using VS Code? Install from the Marketplace instead — see the docs.

Download & install

Sideload the extension, then connect with your API key below.

v0.0.7Updated 2026-06-06.vsix

Same extension as the VS Code Marketplace — packaged for manual install where search isn't available.

Install the .vsix

  1. 1Download the .vsix using the button above (saves to your Downloads folder)
  2. 2Press Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+P (Mac), type Extensions: Install from VSIX, select Extensions: Install from VSIX…, then choose the file — reload if prompted
  3. 3Or open Extensions (Ctrl+Shift+X / Cmd+Shift+X), click at the top of the panel, and choose Install from VSIX…

Connect API key (Cursor)

In Cursor, extension settings live under VS Code Settings — not Cursor's own settings page. Also, Ctrl+, / Cmd+, zooms the editor; it does not open settings.

  1. 1Create an API key at Settings → API keys on codenotebook.dev
  2. 2Open VS Code Settings in Cursor — use either path:
    • Press Ctrl+Shift+P / Cmd+Shift+P, type Open VS Code Settings, and select it
    • Or click the gear iconSettings VS Code Settings in the sidebar
  3. 3Search code notebook and paste your key into Code Notebook: Api Key
  4. 4Select code, right-click → Save to Code Notebook, and enter a title

VSCodium & other editors

Use the same .vsix install steps above, then connect your API key:

  1. 1Create an API key at Settings → API keys on codenotebook.dev
  2. 2Press Ctrl+Shift+P / Cmd+Shift+P and open your editor's settings UI (often Preferences: Open Settings (UI) or Open VS Code Settings)
  3. 3Search code notebook and paste your key into Code Notebook: Api Key
  4. 4Select code, right-click → Save to Code Notebook, and enter a title
