Cookie Policy
Last updated May 2026
This policy explains how Code Notebook uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit codenotebook.dev or use the web app what they do, which ones we use, and how you can control them.
Essential cookies
These cookies are required for Code Notebook to work. Without them, core features such as sign-in and secure sessions would not function.
- Authentication session and sign-in cookies from our auth provider (Clerk) so you can access your workspace securely.
- Security cookies that help prevent fraud and protect your account during login.
- Preferences minimal storage needed to remember UI state during your visit.
Essential cookies do not require consent under most privacy laws because the service cannot operate without them.
Analytics cookies
When enabled, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use Code Notebook for example which pages are viewed and how users navigate the site. This helps us improve the product.
- Analytics is only loaded when we have enabled measurement on our site.
- Google may set cookies such as
_gaand_ga_*to distinguish users and sessions. - We use aggregated, anonymized reports we do not use analytics data to sell your information.
You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or by blocking analytics cookies in your browser settings.
Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by services we integrate with, not by Code Notebook directly:
- Clerk authentication and account management when you sign in or sign up.
- Google Analytics optional usage statistics as described above.
Each provider has its own cookie and privacy policies. See our Privacy Policy for more on how we work with third parties.
Managing cookies
You can control cookies in several ways:
- Browser settings most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Note that blocking essential cookies may prevent you from signing in.
- Sign out ending your session clears auth-related cookies for that browser.
- Private browsing cookies are typically removed when you close a private/incognito window.
- Analytics opt-out use the Google opt-out tool or an ad/analytics blocker if you prefer not to be measured.
How long cookies last
Session cookies expire when you close your browser. Persistent cookies such as those used to keep you signed in or for analytics may remain for a set period defined by the provider (often from a few days up to two years for analytics). Auth cookies are refreshed while you use the app and cleared when you sign out or they expire.
Updates to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy when we add features, change analytics providers, or adjust how the site works. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of Code Notebook after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
